here are some of my most frequently asked questions
Where do you stay in Paris? When I am in Paris, I stay at the Hotel de Suez, in the 5th Arrondissement at 31, Boulevard Saint Michel. This is a 2 star, budget hotel that I have stayed at since 1985 on multiple visits to Paris. The price and location of the hotel, as well as its cleanliness, friendly staff and simple but delicious breakfast have kept me coming back for over 30 years. The most common negative comment about the hotel is that the rooms on the street side (which I happen to like) are very noisy. If this is a concern for you but you still want to stay in a quality budget hotel, I will help you with your reservation to request a room on the courtyard side. These are lovely rooms and tend to be much quieter. If you are planning to tour Paris with me, I highly recommend that you stay at or very near the Hotel de Suez, as it will be our gathering point for all of our outings. In the event you prefer a 3, 4 or even 5 star hotel, there are many to choose from in the 5th Arrondissement and I can help you choose a hotel that meets all your needs.
Where do you stay in Rome? I stay at the Best Western Hotel Canada, which is near Termini Train Station, and convenient to both of Rome's subway lines making virtually all the notable sites like the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica easily accessed. The rooms are very nice, the staff in terrific and their breakfast is worthy of comment. It is by some visitor standards not in the "best" part of town, and you may choose to stay elsewhere, but part of the benefit of staying near Termini is that you get room that would cost double the amount if it was closer to Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps. It is quite suitable for me and I have used it to accommodate many tour guests since 2007 and have never had a single complaint. What are the costs for additional nights? This varies greatly depending your choice of hotel and transportation options. However, as a general rule of thumb, if you stay where I travel and travel as I do, you should plan on an additional $250-300 per day to include food, hotel and transportation costs. How much luggage can I take? You are allowed 1 bag that is no heavier than you can lift yourself, and a small personal bag, like a purse or messenger bag that will fit on your lap or between your legs in the minivan. Your airline ticket may also be subject to limitations. A 10kg (22lb.) bag is generally the restriction for carry-on luggage. Checked bags, generally under 50lbs., may be included in your plane ticket or added as an additional purchase. If you are traveling with in on an inter-Europe airline like Ryan Air between Italy and France, there are very specific luggage regulations, as everything is a-la-carte. More specific details What is the dress code/attire? All of my tours are designed to be casual. You'll want to bring comfortable walking shoes and a multi-purpose rain/cool weather jacket. In the event you are on a tour that includes 1 or more formal dinners at a restaurant, you would be notified of specific dress code in the tour details.
